Welcome back to my blog!
This week I wanted to address a big change in myself - my hair! I cut off about 8-10 inches a week ago and boy has it been an adjustment. The last time my hair was this short was my sophomore year of high school. Long time no see kinda deal.
There are many things I love and many things I could live without. I am still getting used to it but I wanted to share some of my first week struggles and victories.
Love
Amount of product needed. No shame. I use half the amount of shampoo, conditioner, heat protector, dry shampoo, and many more stuff I shove in my hair. A little goes along way! Some of these things might seem obvious.. but let a girl express her victories! I am sure in the long run I will be saving $$$. As we all know beauty products are not cheap, so my frugal self is not complaining.
Hair dries in no time. This is also why washing my hair was not fun - it took HOURS for it to air dry. I don't really care to blow dry my hair unless I am going for a specific look. When I would wash my hair let's say around 6pm it would not be dry by the time I jumped in bed at 10pm. It was so frustrating, I often slept with damp to wet hair and that is not fun or healthy for all the hair police out there.
Donating so much hair. I have been wanting to donate my hair for YEARS! But I was always under the impression that it had to be dye free. But then I learned that it can still be donated as long as it didn't have bleach. My grandmother passed away from Cancer, donating my hair was a huge deal for me. I was able to donate like I mentioned 8-10 inches. I cannot remember the exact number but it was a lot. This is probably what I love the best, being able to give my naps to someone in need.
Now on to the not so fun part of life with short hair.
Could Live Without
Styling. This plays into the fact that I am still trying to figure out how to style my hair. I've played around with a 1' wand and it has been difficult. The bottom back of my hair is very short and can barely wrap around the wand. I am sure once I am more comfortable with my hair and can style it, this will shift up to the "love" section of this post. One thing I can do in no time is straighten my hair, which looks nice but it's getting boring. Yes, it's only been a week since the big cut, but straightening gets boring.
The tips of my hair. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. My hair sits right on my shoulders so the end tips tend to flick out. I feel like I am stuck in the 90's. I try my hardest to keep them inwards but at the end of the day all my hair is tucked in and the very tips are out. This, I cannot wait to overcome. I have maybe two inches to grow to possibly end this problem. Curling it is very hard and frustrating. It kinda curls but not really so again it flicks out! Not fun.
Oil. I have noticed my hair gets oily way faster than when I had long hair. I must admit I do play with it a lot more now that it's shorter. It's still annoying, I have to wash it more often than I would like. I used to wash my hair every other day to every two days. It's not like I went a week without washing it. But now I have to wash it every other day. It makes my hair flat without much volume, so I am on the hunt for the perfect dry shampoo. I have had some suggestions I am going to try out, I just have a hard time spending money on certain things like dry shampoo. But for now I will try to keep my hands out of my hair.
I didn't want this blog post to be days long so I hope it's short and cute for you guys! I will be posting updates on my hair and hair routines once I get the perfect one down. I am still figuring all of that out. I also plan on dying my hair but not sure just yet what I want to do with it. Despite the things I could live without, I am so happy with my cut. My hair feels so much healthier and looks better. My husband mentioned to me that this cut makes me look "relaxed" and "simple" - he assured me it was a compliment. I will add a before and after picture for you guys! Thank you for stopping by and until next time! If you guys would like for me to blog about a specific thing, do not hesitate to ask! I love giving advice on my beauty tricks.
