De-Waxing Candles

Wax can be hard to deal with, trust me. I've been there - wax all over the counter and freaking out. Lucky us, it does not have to be a hassle to remove wax from your candles. I love to use my candle jars for multiple purposes! Why buy expensive jars when you can clear yours out for little to nothing?

Most of my candles are the three wick candles from Bath and Body Works, which are more useful to me than the single wicks, both for multi-use and for my home. I use my jars to hold q-tips, make-up brushes, and cotton pads. But I am sure your creative selves will find many more uses for these cute jars.

Let's get started this is how I clear my jars, mess free. First you want to find a small pot and fill it about half way with water. Bring to boil and place your candle in, it will move around a bit as the water boils. I try to keep it centered so the wax melts evenly, once the wax has melted, I use thongs to remove the wicks. Do not let the candle sit in the boiling water for long as the jar can shatter. Next, remove the candle from the pot with an oven mitt. I collect wax in a bigger jar which will eventually make a new candle with multiple scents. You can pour the melted wax into a garbage bag, I recommended doubling up the bags. After pouring out the wax your jar will still feel dirty, no problem. Once the actual jar has cooled down fill it half way with warm water and dish soap. Let sit, then grab a new dish sponge add dish soap and scrub the remaining wax off. I use a designated sponge only for my candles, I wouldn't recommend using your daily sponge on this project. Peel off the bottom stickers or scrub them off as well, the front label is usually easy to peel off. There you have it, a hassle free and mess free - clean candle jar!
